
Her vines cause the pit to crumble and Hunter uses his dash ability to rescue her and Gus, to which they realize that Flapjack has given Hunter his power, as Hunter saves them from Luz’s staff, to which he shows fear to along with the others. As the others regroup, Kikimora attacks them again and they hold off her attacks before the students of Hexside appear to support them long enough to activate the teleportation glyph. Hunter doesn’t interact much with the students and feels embarrassed being introduced to everyone by Gus, instead he bides his time waiting for Luz to find the memory of her witnessing the teleportation glyph being used by Belos to enter the Titan’s skull. Hunter realize his decision of hiding who he is and not trusting them led to this, Hunter to go after them in a panic, only to be knocked out by Boscha. In "Labyrinth Runners", Hunter has been living at Hexside since he ran away and is found by Gus. Gus asks Hunter if he knows where Luz is, he surprised and worried that Luz isn't with Eda and is missing.

The two fought, with Kikimora managing to set fire to a strand of Hunter's hair. Hunter, formerly known as the Golden Guard, is a major character in The Owl House, initially depicted as an antagonist. He was the right-hand man of Emperor Belos and the former head of the Emperor's Coven. Hunter was presumed to be the nephew of Belos and as such, he was dedicated to his cause of ending all wild magic in the realm, but in reality, he is the latest version of the Golden Guard clones created by Belos to serve him faithfully in his mad quest. Kikimora, who has been posing as Boscha's advisor, appears and attacks the group. He catches Willow after she is knocked out of the sky and helps the others create the glyph pattern as Boscha and the students of Hexside arrive and fend off Kikimora. A week before the Day of Unity, Hunter is scouting out Bonesborough when he sees three figures trying to enter his uncle's mind. They fall through a painting and find themselves in a forest of dead trees with memory paintings on them.

The group successfully teleports to the Head and Camila compliments him with a Cosmic Frontier reference, surprising and pleasing both him and Gus. Luz introduces Hunter and the others to her new palisman, Stringbean, and they watch her bond with the other palismen. As he watches Camila cuddle with the palismen, Willow tells Hunter he means a lot her as well and they interlock their pinkies. Unbeknownst to him and the others, they are being watched by the Collector and Belos, the later of which is possessing the puppet of Raine Whispers.
Gus is initially distrusting of Hunter, believing him to have malicious intent. He asks Hunter not to mess things up for Willow, explaining that she has been working hard for what she has. They try to fight them off to no avail as Willow gives up control and laments how Boscha was right about her being weak. Hearing this, Hunter gives off a golden aura and teleports out of the vines and comforts Willow, saying she means a lot to him. After getting her to let out her frustration, he teleports her and Gus outside and they realize he has Flapjack's teleportation powers. He then teleports them out of the way when Luz's newly hatched palisman unleashes an energy blast.
